Naxos is wild and generous. Naxos always laugh.
Surely Naxos is a rich Island. Rich by its water coming from the mountains, its ground, its landscapes and History. You can walk for days in Naxos. The Island is full of paths and *** points of view. One of my best walk is Apirantos – F***ri-Moni and Halki. The Sagri’s plain until Agiassos is also full of surprises. And for sure, a walk to the Zas (1004 m) and its view on the small Cyclades and Amorgos will always be a delight.
To swim…. The easiest spot are Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka but not only... A little bit further let’s think to Kastraki, Glyfada and surely… Aliko. But let’s not forget a trip to the east cost to swim in Psili Ammos and eat in a nice tavern in Moutsouna.
For the rest and between many other things, I recommand the archeological museum of Naxos, an other kind of delight. Then the night will also wait for us in Chora between taverns, bars and clubs to eat, drink and dance all night long.
Naxos is wild and generous. Naxos always laugh.

My vacation to Naxos was ***
In the summer of 2009, a colleague and I went on vacation for a couple of weeks to an island called Naxos. I met a lot of fellow norwegians there who were enjoying the sun and atmosphere.
Naxos is a beautiful city with sunshine and tempting beaches, acompanied by hospital residents.
During my stay I enjoyed tasty exotic meals at a terri*** restaurant (feel free to add the name being that I have forgotten it:P) owned by a kind family. The two sisters in the family were so friendly and nice, and I got to know them very quickly, probably beacause of their warm hearts. Both girls worked really hard but always had time to spare when I came around. The family actually invited myself and 30 other fellow norwegians for dinner without expecting any payment in return. I wasn't used to this kind of hospitality and accomadation back home.
My vacation to Naxos was *** and the people were as mentioned, hospitable, kind and had a positive vibe you easily can sense. After reading this you might think I'm overdoing it with all the positive feedback, but to backup my opinion: I'm DEFINITELY coming back to Naxos

My vacation paradise: Naxos
My vacation paradise: Naxos
Every summer my family and I have been traveling to the wonderful island: Naxos in Greece.
It is a wonderful island with many beautiful things to see and experience. It is a very family friendly island where you can bring young people, grandparents and children!
Our experience with Naxos has been fantastic, and this summer 2012, will be our fourteenth year traveling to Naxos.
There are many good activities to do on the island and beautiful beaches to relax on.
We have rented cars, quads and been on guided tours.
We have been diving, and we have been riding tube on the water after a fast boat, paragliding and climbing the island's highest "mountain"!
Traveling from Norway is very comfortable, not too long and if you so choose you can drive a boat from a nearby island, or fly directly to the island!
I would strongly recommend Naxos for a romantic holiday, a family holiday or a relaxing holiday for the elderly!
My favorite beach is the beach in Agia Anna where you can relax and enjoy the sun in a family friendly area.
If I would rate this place from 1-10 it would have gotten a 10!

Will for sure enjoy their holidays on this beautif
Ever since 1990, we have spent our holidays on the beautiful sunny Island of Naxos.
What struck us from the first moment is the hospitality of the local people.
This next to the beautiful beaches, fancy restaurants and nice villages. For us, one of the most beautiful beaches is Plaka Beach where there are some really fantastic bars and restaurants. When moving on, a lot of kite surfers are enjoying the waves on the beach of Mikri Vigla.
Of course there are also many smaller beaches that are for sure worth visiting. The old hotel in Alyko will guide you to them. We recommend you to visit Moutsouna, located on the east part of the island, a beautiful small village with a most picturesque harbor. Next to Moutsouna, Apirantos, Filoti and Apollonas are some nice spots to make a stop. Meanwhile, a lot of our friends have spent their holidays in Naxos and many of them are still returning year after year. We have been to Naxos 12 times and are still returning. Everyone who enjoys beautiful beaches, grilled fish, and the Greek atmosphere, will for sure enjoy their holidays on this beautiful island!

The best memories
I have been to Naxos and Agia Anna almost every summer since I was a little girl. The best childhood memories are from being on Naxos and playing on the beach. The freedom all the children had was the best feeling. I have never felt so safe and free. I will never forget what is was like hunting lizards in the evening, running on the beach with all the children, jumping from boats in the little pier and lying on our back in the sand after nightfall and watching the stars. I have never seen so many stars as I have in Agia Anna. The place was always very magical as a youngster.
I could go safely around almost everywhere and especially Akrogiali tavern was my second home. Akrogiali is placed right on the beach and all the people working there are my friends, almost like my family. I feel so welcome there, always. (Is is definitely a part of the Greek mentality too, making people feel welcome.) I could always go up there and order lunch, or ice cream, all by myself or sit there with other children and play games when we needed a break from all the swimming and playing in the sun. Naxos is really a paradise on earth and I could write ten books of great memories if I wanted to (maybe I shall).
But Naxos is not only about lying on the beach and eating ice cream, of course. And I could say a lot about that. It is always something to do and new places to go. Naxos is a place where you can explore the island in a lot of different ways. You can rent a car or a bicycle and travel around the island and visit the local craftworks, the lemon gardens, the ancient temples or the well known gigantic fallen statue of the God Apollo. One of my greatest experiences of travelling outside of Agia Anna was the trip to the highest mountain in Naxos (and in the Cyclades all together) named Zas. I was only 14 but that was a trip I never will forget. *** nature and an incredible view on the top, absolutely recommendable!
For me Naxos is everything. It is the best (and I mean it) place for children and also a place I want to go back to as a young adult. I can still get the feeling of childlike happiness but also find new things to do and create new memories. It will always be a place that belongs to my childhood, but I can say that it is a place for everybody, any ages.

Naxos is my therapy
Naxos is my therapy. Every summer I go to Naxos. For me, Agia Anna is the best place on the island. Arriving Naxos with the ferry and then take a taxi to Agia Anna is something that I feel like magic. When the taxi drives off and the wind blows through the windows, the smell of Naxos fills me up. It smells like a mix of thyme, sweet honey, sea breeze and golden sand, and this is, for me, the smell of happiness. I can also mention the calming sound of the sea, bought when taking a Mythos at Akrogiali restaurant in the middle of the day and, of course, when going to sleep. The sound of silence, but with a lot of liveliness. Its always a lot of laughter in Agia Anna but the teenagers clubbing is luckily centered in town.
The feeling of being safe is one of the many things I appreciate the most about Naxos, and especially; Agia Anna. I went there with my little girl on my own for some years ago and I have never felt so safe in any other place. I didn’t have to worry too much, because of little traf***, safe sea, everything nearby and people I could trust. Agia Anna is a place where I feel that everybody takes care of each other. I want to tell a story about a father that suddenly ran to the beach from one of the beach restaurants one evening. He was shouting that his little boy was missing and it took only a few seconds before the whole beach was filled with people that wanted to help this father looking for his son. Luckily, this little boy was fund sleeping in his one stroller at the restaurant. The little kid had just gone to bed by himself. But the look of so many people just intuitively helping this poor dad was something I never will forget. This is what Naxos is all about, helping each other and feeling safe. Even with young children, you, as a worried parent, will have a pleasant vacation. This atmosphere is a special atmosphere that is created by the local people of Naxos and Agia Anna and some of this great people have become like my family.
I will always have a special relationship to Naxos and I of course recommend everybody to go there and get their own relationship to the greatest island of the Cyclades.

I felt i could never leave
I travelled to Naxos in September 2009.
I say "travelled to Naxos" as if this was my original intention. It wasn't. This was how a two week holiday plan to get to as many Greek Islands as possible simply turned out.
Naxos wasn't even on my list when I booked my flights, packed my bags, boarded the plane or arrived in Athens. How could it be? There are so many Greek islands!
When I arrived at the port to catch 'a boat, any boat' the first on offer was, you guessed it, to Naxos. Situated somewhere toward the east of the Cyclades group of islands, Naxos is one of the larger destinations on offer which made me a little nervous. I was looking for 'secluded', not 'hustle and bustle' and when I arrived rather dangerously late in the evening (given that I hadn't booked a hotel) I was pleased only to be greeted by one or two taxi drivers and a small group of locals meeting wives, husbands, children from the boat.
I hopped into the nearest one and asked him to take me somewhere comfortable, and not too far away. I needed somewhere to sleep first and foremost! I found myself crashing out at Agia Anna about a 15 minute drive from the main port and as you'd expect in the dark of midnight, on first arrival, I had no idea what to expect at first light. I'd be happy with sunshine. Hell i'd be happy with the sound of the ocean!
To cut a long story short I didn't leave Naxos for those two weeks. I found myself spending my days between the beach at Agia Anna, the family run (the lovely Grigoropoulos) cafe at Akrogiali Apartments and the Liatero bar next door. I hired a moped to ensure I 'got out and about' and found myself an hour or so from Agia Anna, exploring the island, it's many coves, beaches and sometimes bizarre architecture almost every day. And every day there was only one thing I could guarantee; I would find myself eating stunning greek lunches in the sun, in a square lined with vines devouring a good book. The island may be small by comparison to my hometown of London, but it felt like I could never leave.

I can´t wait for my next stay at Naxos…
I visited Naxos for the first time in 1999 and it was love at first sight! Since then my family and I spend our holidays at Agia Anna almost every year.
Agia Anna is a small village approx. 5 km from Naxos town with a very beautiful little port. Having dinner at our friends´ restaurant with lots of local specialities while watching the sunset over Paros… that’s what makes it so unique.
A must for everyone who visits Naxos is going by car or by motor-bike to the small beaches in the West (Pyrgaki !!!) where you can go for a swim without running across anyone else for hours.
Furthermore I would absolutely recommend to go to the mountain villages like Filotti and Moni in order to take a freshly pressed orange juice beneath beautiful orange trees.
Altogether Naxos provides so many opportunities to fulfill everyone´s wishes – *** beaches and small villages, you can go for shopping in the Chora, moreover there are so many possibilities to do sports like hiking, horse riding…. In my opinon it is the most wonderful place to spend my holidays!
I can´t wait for my next stay at Naxos…
Enjoy!
Cheers from Germany, Mareike

I love the island.

Escape to a insiders' tip
Escape to a insiders' tip
Since my parents first travelled to Naxos 15 years ago they were the biggest fans of this wonderful island.
In the same year my sister and me travelled together with our parents to Naxos for the second time and it was
the beginning of a special friendship to Naxos.
In May, Naxos is covered with colourful flowers. The Paradies Garden with its beautiful butterflies is a magic place
where you can see exotic flowers, buy some honey from this old lady or just relax a while.
If you like action - climb the Zas! The hard way up is every footstep worthy. The view is ***.
The main city of Naxos invite you for a shopping tour through narrow alleys with charming shops.
Handmade souvenirs, special beverages or the most delicious bougatsas (Cafe Rendevous) make your day.
Everytime I went to Naxos I go to the spices shop in the near of the harbour. It smells wonderful there
and the pistaches are the best I have ever tried. The jewelry shops are awesome and my collection
of jewels with "Naxos-Eyes" grows and grows.

... my holiday paradise on earth
"The Island of Naxos and the little village of Agia Anna with the taverna Acrogiali owned and driven by the family Grigoroupolou is my holiday paradise on earth. Why is this so?
First of all it is because of the Greek people with their outstanding generosity and hospitality. Combined with the warmth of the climate and the sandy beautiful beaches of the island, this makes and unbeatable combination. I will also like to mention the tastiness of the delicious Greek food served and made in an original manner especially at the little taverna Acrogiali.
For me and my family the Island of Naxos with the places and people I have mentioned is our second homeland, a place which we will always return to".

The first time I went to Naxos was in year 2000.
After that we have been back in Naxos four times.
Before that I travelled a lot to the Islands of Greece, mostly in the Agean and the Sporades.
Me and the family love the hospitality of the Greeks, the food and the atmosphere.
Every time when we are at Naxos we stay at the small village Agia Anna. Here is at long, beautiful beach .
There is a groupment of several sandy beaches, a small fishing port and some rocky formations. The water is very clear. It`s quite and perfect for families, couples and lovers :-) The sunsets here are fabulous.
We use to rent a car and travel round the island: Breakfast at Filoti, then over the mountains and take a look at the old church of Ayios Nikolaos and The Statues of Kouros.
At Apollonas we eat lunch and take a bath in the sea, our kids also try fishing sometimes.
I can also recommened Naxos town, the atmosphere in the old city and the the famous Portara which is the gate of the temple. In the sunset it`s outstanding!

Naxos is our favourite place to spend our holidays
We spent our holidays for many years in Aghia Anna (Naxos). We like this island so much! My father spent his holiday’s there since 20 years, often two times in one year. The beach of Aghia Anna is awesome! The bars in the town are very comfortable. The meals are delicious in the restaurants of Aghia Anna. The people there are very hospitable! Naxos is our favourite place to spend our holidays.

Μα που είναι η γαϊδάρα, μα που είναι είναι;

I returned to Naxos for a summer holiday
For 4 years I returned to Naxos for a summer holiday as it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
Agios Prokopios and Aggia Anna are fabulous beaches with fantastic restaurants nearby.
Nearby there are activities like b***na boat which you MUST try out but you can just lie under the sun and enjoy the view across the water!!
If you are thinking of going to Greece for holiday definitely try out Naxos, you won't want to leave!!!

Why we love Naxos
Today we are a family of four who love coming to Naxos. We have both also been to Naxos as young travellers before family life and we loved Naxos then too. Greece has so much natural beauty and authenticity about it. The beautiful sandy beaches, its bright blue ocean, small exotic villages, mountains, winding country roads and its bright blue skyes. Naxos is the perfect place to travel to, as it has something for everyone. Naxos town itself has a great variety of restaurants and trendy bars. It offers good shopping and ’the old town’ is authentic with a great atmosphere that also offers cultural happenings like concerts.
Being the largest island in the Cyclades, Naxos is also the perfect place for a more quiet holiday away from the most busy areas of Naxos town. Our personal favourite is Agia Anna, only 15 mins by bus from the main town, Chora. It has the perfect combination of a beautiful beach, friendly local people, good food and a couple of bars that stay open into the night when the kids are asleep. You can stay in small tavernas right on the beach and fall asleep to the relaxing sound of the waves just outside. Our family loves it here and we will continue to come back as often as we can!

I Know Naxos ...
I Know Naxos for a very long time and it is still an island worth travelling to. I love the long beaches and the silence. I really enjoyed it and was able to relax. I liked riding the bike along the path to Migri Viglia. People are very friendly.

My trip to Naxos was truly memorable..
Following a visit to Crete I decided to stop over at Naxos for a few weeks. Of all the mystical towns of Naxos, Chora takes the cake.
The stunning Venetian architecture of the quaint town is alluring and a feast for the eyes. Apiranthos comes next because of the fact that this town seems to be somewhat untouched by mainstream tourists.
My visits to the The Crispi Tower and the other ruins including the Naxos gate left me with a sense of the affluence that this island one boasted.
A trip to the Naxos gate at sunset is well worth it. I had a fantastic stay at the Akrogiali Appartmens, Agia Anna and was very pleased with the friendliness and warmth of the staff. The well appointed colourful rooms left me feeling that I was right at home.
A visit to all of Naxos' beaches was high on my priority list but my personal favourite is the Agia Anna beach which is set in fantastic scenery.
Transport is pretty straightforward and not expensive. I highly recommend a visit to this island. and will return again next year!

our favourite Greek Island
We have very happy memories of our favourite Greek Island. Some of the places we have visited when in Naxos are Filotti (for real village people watching), Moutsouna (so quiet and beatiful), Glyfada (our favourite beach, apart from Ag.Anna), Mikri Vigla and Naxos Town and the Protara.
We love Saturday night's in Naxos Town when the locals all get together, it's great people watching and seeing how the local people get together as families and friends for a night out.
We cannot wait for our 2012 Naxos holiday!!

Naxos
We went to Naxos at the beginning of October. At this time the island has a special atmosphere. It is not crowded, very calm, the sun doesn’t burn and the people are not so busy because it is the end of the season.
The beaches are wonderful at this time, you can walk for hours, nearly alone.
We stayed for two weeks at Ag. Prokopios, Ag. Anna and Plaka Beach and we were lazy the whole time. Sometimes it is enough just to join the sun, sitting at the beach in front of a very nice taverna, called Akrogiali, and drink a glass of wine.

Thoughts of Naxos…
memories of an island jewel in the Mediterranean sea.. and of a time long past ….
The first sighting of Temple of Apollo (or Potara) seemed to stir my thoughts from a long distant memory – lifetimes ago, and seeing the square entrance pillars illuminated against the balmy Mediterranean night sky made me feel like I was again in the company of a long lost friend.
There is something remarkable about the way the small crowded town on the hill of Naxos proudly governs the majesty of its jeweled harbor. Even from a distance its grandeur speaks of a colorful and vibrant Greek history.
Wandering around this old town and market brought many delights – up the narrow winding staircases and the myriad of little shops that held local hand crafted treasures and the colorful doorways with potted plants beckoning to explore what lay beyond.
And who could forget the beautiful sun drenched beaches like Agia Anna or Agia Prokopios that allow all the stress of life fade away in the joy of its calming crystal blue waters.. and even a glimpse of the island of Paros on the horizon.
Walking along the beach fronts you could find many little local cafés with succulent traditional dishes and the laughter of tourists happy to be in this sun drenched paradise.
On the day I rode my small bicycle across the port and down the dusty winding roads to the beach beyond, the clouds parted and I felt an all pervasive joy explode in my senses feeling the simplicity of life here on this tiny wonderful island.
Ahh … Naxos you have caught my spirit again in the joy you behold.
And the pleasure filled all my senses…
